Super Easy 3 Ingredient Teriyaki Sauce
You can buy premade teriyaki sauce at any grocery store now, but making it at home avoids all the preservatives and extra sugars that are in store bought teriyaki sauce. My version uses coconut sugar which is a great alternative to processed sugars. If you don't have coconut sugar you can use any type of sweetening agent like brown or white sugar, honey, agave etc. This Teriyaki sauce is great with any type of protein or vegetable.
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1/2 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water
Optional 1 tbsp mirin
Ingredients
1 cup water1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1/2 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water
Optional 1 tbsp mirin
- Add water, soy sauce, coconut sugar and sesame oil. These 3 ingredients are key to a tasty teriyaki sauce. Bring to a boil for about 2 mins. Since this is a quick easy teriyaki sauce we won't be simmering or reducing the sauce.
- Optional: you can add 1 tbsp mirin, the reason why this is optional is because not everyone has mirin in their pantry and since its only 1 tbsp it can do without. This also is considered alcohol, so if you don't like cooking with alcohol you don't need to add the mirin.
- Once brought to a boil add the cornstarch and water mixture to thicken our sauce.
- Adjust flavors if needed with salt and pepper.
That is it, so simple and easy. This recipe makes about 1 1/2 cup of sauce, you can store this is your fridge for about 2 weeks or freeze for up to a month.
