Grilled Flank Steak- in Calamansi & Soy Marinade

I love cooking with flank steak, its a great cheaper alternative if you feel like having steak. This marinade is similar to another one of my recipes, the bistek roses. Grilling steak on charcoal just adds so much flavor to the meat and is great for those warm summer days.

Ingredients

1 small flank steak (1/2lb)
3-4 calamansi
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 onion cut into large rings
  1. Trim excess fat off of flank steak, transfer steak into a container or large bowl.
  2. Drizzle 2 tbsp olive oil, add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, calamansi juice and soy sauce. Rub over flank steak until well coated. Marinade overnight.
  3. Set up bbq to have direct and indirect heat.
  4. Place flank steak on direct heat, sear for 5 mins until there are grill marks. Turn steak 60 degrees to make X shaped grill marks. Sear for another 5 mins.
  5. Flip steak and repeat step 4.
  6. Please onion rings on grill and cook until tender.
  7. Once seared on both sides, move steak to indirect heat, close bbq lid and cook for about 15-20 mins or until desired internal temperature is met.
  8. I cooked mine until internal temperature about 130 degrees this was about medium-well.
  9. Cut against the grain and serve with grilled onions.
